Brain Surgery

Dr. Bianco has developed a keen interest in brain surgery since he was a toddler. After medical school and e neurosurgery residency, he is one of the few that has done a one year fellowship in minimally invasive skull base and endoscopic techniques. Since then he has taking care of hundreds of patients with simple and complex brain pathologies. We implement state of art neurodiagnostic tests for the diagnosis, and cutting edge surgical techniques during the surgical procedure. The following cases are examples of patients that we have cared for; some cases are presented with CT and MRI; other cases have short surgical clip.

Brain Tumors

Meningioma

Case 1

Large anterior skull base meningioma invading the orbita and nasal cavity. Preop and Postop MRI. Complete resection of the tumor with a minimally invasive skull base technique.

Preop MRI

Postop MRI

Glioma

Case 2

Patient with high grade Glioma ( Glioblastoma Multiforme) in the insula.

Preop and postop MRI with gross total resection of the tumor.

Preop MRI

Postop MRI

Pituitary Adenoma

Case 3

Endoscopic technique for resection of pituitary tumors.

Case 4

Large invasive pituitary adenoma removed with a transfacial skull base approach.

Preop MRI

Postop MRI

Other types of Brain Tumors removed by Dr. Bianco

  • Chrodoma
  • Oligodendroglioma
  • Craniopharingioma
  • Ependymoma
  • Colloid Cyst
  • DNET
  • Dermoid Cyst
  • Epidermoid Cyst
  • Acustic Neurinomas

Functional MRI

Use of Functional MRI to improve the outcome of patients with brain tumors

Motor Functional MRI

The primary motor regions are visualized behind the right frontal lesion.

Visual Functional MRI

The primary visual brain cortex Is seen. In this case the lesion was laterally to the visual areas

Speech Functional MRI

The  areas of Broca and Werniche are well seen. The fibers connecting the 2 areas are in green.

Fiber tract MRI

The large bundles of fibers coming down from the cortex in the brainstem are well seen in purple and blue.

Neurovascular Surgery

We specialize in neurovascular surgical techniques for the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformation (AVM, AVF, cavernous angiomas)

We implement use of intraoperative infrared angiography

Clipping of an unruptured right ophthalmic aneurysm

At Bianco Brain and Spine we treat multiple neurosurgical functional disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm with both surgical and stereotactic radiosurgery modalities.

Microvascular decompression of trigeminal nerve

This video shows the surgical technique used for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia.

We are recognized for the treatment of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. We use the latest neuroradiological testing for the diagnosis of the only treatable form of dementia (NPH)

Neuroendoscopic Techniques

This video shows a purely endoscopic resection of a third ventricular colloid cyst. The patient was able to be discharged from the hospital the day after surgery.

Dr Bianco completed in 2000 a minimally invasive endoscopic fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Since then he has dedicated his career to the advancement of both brain and spinal endoscopic techniques which allow the patients to have a true minimally invasive experience. Unfortunately not every patients is a candidate for endoscopic techniques and only an expert consultation can determine the correct diagnosis and treatment for each patient.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery

We perform stereotactic radiosurgery to the patients with the correct indication for the treatment. Usually this non invasive treatment is very effective for selected patient with brain tumors, brain metastasis, trigeminal neuralgia, artero-venous malformation.
