Spine Surgery

Today’s spine surgery is a large and complex chapter in medicine. We have a large variety of surgical techniques available to us to achieve the goal of make a significant difference in patients life.

Typically we operate in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.  In rare cases we perform cranio-cervical procedures.

The spine can be approached from the front, side, and back and we use all those techniques to perform our surgeries.

In some cases we perform “decompression” of the spine alone. What that means is that we remove the offending tissue that was compressing the nerves or spinal cord. Usually those tissues are disk fragment, bony spurs, tumors, hematomas, etc.

For patients with instability of the spine and or with severe degeneration of the spine elements where the necessary decompression would certainly destabilize the spine, we perform fusion typically with hardware.

We use a large repertoire of minimally invasive spine surgical techniques that allow for many patients to have their surgery in an outpatients setting.

When indicated we perform arthroplasty commonly called artificial disc replacement.

On the opposite spectrum, we specialize in complex spinal operation such as correction of scoliosis, reoperations, other spine deformities corrections, and spine tumors including spinal cord neoplasm. We offer a comprehensive care plan for those patients that need prolonged care.

We are involved in multiple research protocols that help us better learn spine disease and the best care for them.
